Technology On The Move

Capital MetroRapid will turn heads. Imagine a traffic light that stays green a little longer just for you or one that changes from red to green a few seconds early as you approach. As your Capital MetroRapid bus approaches the uniquely branded Rapid bus stop, you can’t help but think to yourself, “that bus looks like a train.”

  • Initial service will include two routes: North Lamar/South Congress and Burnet/South Lamar.
  • Capital MetroRapid service will offer better passenger amenities including real-time bus arrival information at all MetroRapid stops, 10-minute frequency during peak and all day service and reduced travel times by as much as 20 percent.
  • MetroRapid stops will be close to local service bus stops and connect to two MetroRail stations for quick and easy connections.
  • Once Capital MetroRapid’s initial service is up and running, we’ll continue our plans to develop up to 10 routes in the next 20 years.

Whats New

  • Submitted an initial findings report to the Federal Transportation Administration to prepare for federal funding request.

Whats Next

  • Discuss Capital MetroRapid possibilities with communities near the first two planned routes.
  • Expect to submit a formal proposal for federal funding through the Very Small Starts Program later this summer.
